Position: Network Engineer Location: Washington, DC (Potential for Hybrid) Clearance: Public Trust “Must hold an active Public Trust clearance to apply”
THE OVERALL PURPOSE OF POSITION: The purpose of this position is to build and administer all information technology related network infrastructure in a group which manages all data center, network, data, voice and telephony infrastructure. Provides support on these systems and responds to outages within established SLAs. The level IV position requires expert knowledge in specialized network technologies. Must be contactable on mobile phone. Will support monthly Saturday maintenance and off-hours software deployments when a timed network change is required.
SCOPE OF WORK
Build new infrastructure (data center, wireless and wired network, data, load balancing, voice, telephony, wiring and UPS) including design, planning, risk assessment, implementation, and documentation. Follow procedures, change management best practices, and ensure availability and maintenance of disaster recovery stance. Projects will include those driven by Systems Operations, and those driven by other IT, and business groups - 50%
Maintain network and systems by managing product and capabilities roadmaps, establishing maintenance procedures, work with Systems Administrators and other engineers to perform regular maintenance, work with Security team to ensure network compliance – 20%
Perform Infrastructure Monitoring (setting up and monitoring alerts, events, notifications and reports on network environments), and working with Systems Administrators to guide proactive monitoring – 20%
Respond to tier 2 service desk tickets, production outages to SLA and procedure – 10%
Wireless Network technology, especially Cisco, and especially where management controllers are deployed.
Implementing QoS initiatives to support video and voice communications.

Implementing and supporting BGP
Firewall administration and configuration with sophisticated understanding of ports, protocols, and routing and switching in a firewalled, wide area network VMware.
Microsoft Active Directory – experience with design, migrations, use of elements like group policies
Understanding of communications/telecommunications circuits
Building and maintaining networks to meet compliance with NIST, FISMA and other certifications, standards, and guidance.
Mentoring experience of other Network Engineers is a plus.
